Scholarships for string teachers/high school music directors:
In collaboration with Credo, the ACMP Foundation is offering a limited number of scholarships covering tuition and lodging to string teachers for the attendance of "Chamber Music Coaching Practicum Course" in 2008. For one week during the Credo summer program, July 6 - 12, participants will observe three hours daily of ensemble coaching, 1.5 hours of masterclass, and one hour of daily instruction on how to coach by Credo faculty (an acclaimed faculty from the Juilliard, Oberlin, and Wheaton Conservatories, and from our country's leading ensembles).

About the Scholarship offering:

To encourage the involvement of high-school age students in playing chamber music, ACMP Foundation offers a limited number of $600 scholarships covering tuition and lodging to string teachers for attendance at a "Chamber Music Coaching Practicum Course" in 2008.

About the Chamber Music Coaching Practicum Course:

The emphasis is on honing the art of coaching a student chamber ensemble. Explored topics will include communication skills, teaching strategies, diagnostics, and observation. Participants will be notified in advance of the music to be studied and are asked to bring scores to class. Participants will observe three ours daily of coaching, 1.5 hours of masterclass, and one hour daily instruction on how to coach by the Credo faculty.

Scholarship Details:

Amount: $600
Procedure:

  • $200 tuition paid in advance by ACMP Foundation directly to SMI-Credo.
  • $300 paid to participant on arrival at the program by ACMP Foundation.
  • $100 paid to participant by ACMP Foundation upon receipt of a copy of the Completion Certificate from Credo and a three-page paper by the participant summarizing salient points of the experience. This is due no later than August 15th, 2008.

July 6 - 12, 2008

Costs of the program:

Tuition/Lodging: $550
Lodging: Single dorm room with linen service provided. Breakfast included; meals $20-$30 per day in local restaurants.
Participant Deposit: A non-refundable deposit of $100 is due no later than 1 May.   Remaining balance due upon arrival.

Application Deadline:

March 15, 2008. Recipients will be notified by April 1st.

Application Procedure:

  • Apply online and submit CV and reference letter with application cover page to ACMP Foundation by March 15, 2008.
  • Send deposit upon receiving scholarship notification. Be sure to observe deadlines.
  • Upon arrival at course, receive first installment of scholarship from ACMP Foundation.
  • Upon completion of course, send a copy of the Completion Certificate and a three-page essay describing your experience to the Foundation: due by August 15th, 2008. A check for the balance of $100 will be sent on receipt.
